About the Washington District Export Council 

The Washington District Export Council (DEC) is a volunteer organization drawn from Washington State businesses, governmental agencies and non-profits.  The members have in-depth knowledge and experience in international business and are available as a unique source of professional advice to help other Washington firms compete and win business in the international marketplace.  The Washington DEC works closely with the Seattle U.S. Export Assistance Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Commercial Service to accomplish its mission through:

  • Counseling, educating and mentoring local businesses;
  • Identifying key issues affecting U.S. and Washington industry competitiveness in the global marketplace;
  • Enhancing the efforts of the Seattle US Export Assistance Center.

Established in 1973 by the President and the Secretary of Commerce, District Export Councils are mandated to support the export expansion activities of the U.S. Department of Commerce and serve as a link between the business community and U.S. Export Assistance Centers (USEACs) across the United States.

Washington District Export Council Business Briefing: Featuring Suresh Kumar, Assistant Commerce Secretary and Director General of the U.S. Commercial Service.  -  March 29, 2010


The Washington District Export Council and the U.S. Export Assistance Center of Seattle, was pleased to host a special event for Suresh Kumar, Assistant Commerce Secretary and Director General of the U.S. Commercial Service (CS), who was recently confirmed by the United States Senate.

Export University 101

Export University was a series of courses held in October, 2011 on exporting designed by the National District Export Council and the U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  Ralph B. Ibarra, immediate past Chair of the Washington District Export Council (WADEC), is a 12-year Member of this volunteer non-profit organization whose Members are appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to assist local companies to become export-ready and engage in successful international trade.  Ralph is also an instructor and the WADEC Coordinator for Export University and this series of three (3) 90-minute sessions are intended to foster success in international trade and commerce.
